Euljiro

Printing alleys, dried-fish pubs and a few good cafes

Euljiro is a working district of print shops, tile makers and hardware stores that has picked up cafes and bars in its back lanes. It sits between Myeongdong and Dongdaemun along Lines 2 and 3.

The district is easiest to explore around Euljiro 3(sam)-ga Station. Exit 3 leads to Euljiro Nogari Alley, where beer pubs serve dried pollack. The first pub opened in 1980, and the alley was named a Seoul Future Heritage site in 2015.

Some cafes sit upstairs or on side streets. Eulji Dabang is on the second floor of a building on Eulji-ro and opens at 6:00 Monday to Saturday (9:00 on Sundays), and Coffee Hanyakbang is styled as an old clinic.

Getting there

Euljiro 3(sam)-ga (Line 2/3) is the main station. Exit 10 is nearest Eulji Dabang, exit 3 leads to the Nogari Alley, exit 11 to the golbaengi lane. Euljiro 1(il)-ga and Euljiro 4-ga (Line 2) are the next stops either side.

What to see

There are no big sights. Walk the lanes behind Eulji-ro and look for shuttered print shops next to new bars. Cheonggyecheon Stream runs just north and gives you a flat evening walk.

Where to eat and drink

Pungnam Golbaengi serves sea snail dishes from 15:00 and is closed Sundays. Nogari Alley is about beer and dried pollack, so eat first if you want a proper meal.
