Seongsu-dong

Converted factories, cafes and a big forest park

Seongsu-dong is a former industrial district on Line 2 where factories and warehouses now hold cafes, flagship stores and galleries. Seoul Forest is nearby and gives the area a green end.

Daelim Changgo, a former rice mill about 300 m from Seongsu Station exit 3, is open 11:00 to 22:00, and the Musinsa Store is in the same compound. Anderson C, a cafe with a furniture gallery, closes at 18:00, much earlier than its neighbours.

Seongsu Yeonbang and CUEREN The Village are complexes with several shops, cafes and exhibitions in one place. Each shop keeps its own hours, so check the one you want before making the trip.

Seoul Forest is free and open 24 hours, and its insect and plant garden is closed Mondays. Kwangya@Seoul, a free K-pop space inside the SM Entertainment building, is 73 m from Seoul Forest Station exit 5. For sunset, the Seongsu Pedestrian Overpass looks over the Han.

Getting there

Seongsu (Line 2), exits 3 and 4, for the cafes. Seoul Forest (Suin-Bundang Line), exits 3 to 5, for the park, Kwangya and the overpass.

What to see

Do the cafes and shops first, then Seoul Forest in the afternoon, since its gardens close at 17:00. Daelim Changgo gets queues on weekends, so go before the afternoon crowds. Scene opens at 10:00 and CUEREN The Village at 10:00 as well.

Where to eat and drink

Cafes are the main business. Scene and CaféCité (in CUEREN The Village) open at 10:00, and Anderson C closes at 18:00. For a drink, Daelim Changgo has a bar, and the Seongsu Yeonbang complex includes a brewery pub.
